Reading America Lists

I hope the readers of this site will make sure to go back and read the comments on the previous post, and feel as inspired as I do to read some of the offbeat (and not so offbeat) suggestions that have come up so far in the expanding list of books that define America. And the post isn't that old yet, if you'd still like to offer your own suggestions. Thanks to several folks who have taken up the idea on their own blogs, too.

I have to say, I was a bit dismayed (with myself) when I read the first 8 or 10 comments, as I have read almost none of the books referenced. (But then, I'm a Canadian, so we have a different canon. Which is to say, we have no canon.) Then a few trickled in that I have read. But I will use that comment thread as a resource for building a reading list.
