oh do start painting again beth!

i know what you mean. A still life painting of his in los angeles made me burst into tears. wish i could see the exhibit, but i guess we're here in the middle of it all and that ain't bad either.

Have a delicious new Year and keep breathing!

Beth, what an intense and positive experience you describe, and I like the glimpse of the Dufy landscape in your photo.

Wishing you and J a Happy New Year, with lots of enjoyment as well as hard work! And maybe some painting as well?

Beth: if you want a little piece of Provence in your inbox every morning, why not sign up for Julian Merrow-Smith's painting-a-day? It ALWAYS warms the cockles. His still lifes are particularly satisfying in the cockle-warming department.

Good suggestion, Pica - and one I already do! Did you seethat gorgeous painting of persimmons he did recently? I also love reading his wife Ruth's blog, "Meanwhile, Here in France" at: http://meanwhilehereinfrance.blogspot.com/ (that's the same Ruth in the comments thread, above.)

Cezanne and Van Gogh .

Cezanne and Van Gogh.
I am very happy that you know Cezanne and Van Gogh! I am insane of Van Gogh! Chance: yesterday, with my wife, we compared paintings of these two painters! Cezanne which seems me to seek the Absolute for the Absolute, Van Gogh seeking the Absolute in the Man and nature. I much also like Monet, Renoir, Degas, Derain, De Vlamink, Matisse, Bonnard, Modigliani... et so much of others... The Paradise: to look at a painting of Van Gogh by listening to a music of Jean Sebastien Bach!!! I wish you a beautiful day.

Who was Cassandra?

  • In the Iliad, she is described as the loveliest of the daughters of Priam (King of Troy), and gifted with prophecy. The god Apollo loved her, but she spurned him. As a punishment, he decreed that no one would ever believe her. So when she told her fellow Trojans that the Greeks were hiding inside the wooden horse...well, you know what happened.
