Today J. got up long before I did (6:00 or something outrageous like that) and went off to the studio on his bike. I got up at 7:45 and slowly dressed (jeans again - I've spent 95% of my life in jeans, I think - the first turtleneck of the season, a fleece jacket) and went to the studio too, but in the car -- stormy sky outside, and a lot to carry. When I got there, he announced that we'd run out of milk and offered to go to the little neighborhood epicerie to get some; I said that was great and begged him to get me a bran muffin or something darkish, if they had them, I was sick of eating cereal. He brought back red pears and apples, milk, lettuce, and a really delicious date muffin that we split.
As it turned out, it was a good idea to have the car, because we decided, mid-morning, to go off to Anjou to the computer store because J.'s netbook is on the fritz. On the way, we stopped to take photos of an interesting curved-front building under construction, near the intersection of deLorimier and the 40. I sketched.
The computer store is near Marche Kim Phat, so I went there and bought all sorts of Asian ingredients, said hello to the eels and live fish, the poulets-avec-tetes, the piles of bok choi and Chinese greens. We ate an almond cookie. We went to Costco. He pumped some gas (1.08/litre there, as opposed to 1.15 locally - it's gone up about 12 cents in just a couple of days.) I sketched. Costco parking lots are the same everywhere! We ate a fast lunch.
And then to Rona, a big hardware/home store, to look at faucets and sinks, because we're going to replace those in our kitchen. We stopped at Best Buy. I sketched a Jaguar in the parking lot, but it didn't come out well enough to show you (cars are not my thing.)
Then back to the studio, by now midafternoon, for a few hours of work on the event publicity for our annual choir fundraising concert. Here's the finished poster:
I made dinner here - a big bowl of Pho-like soup with vegetables and some pork and cabbage dumplings, bought frozen at Kim Phat, topped with bonito/seaweed/sesame flakes. And now...I'm about to take the car back to the apartment, pick up my bike, and go downtown to choir rehearsal.
Should sleep better tonight.
Kia ora Beth,
Wow, what a great day. You bring the sights and smells of each moment to life. And the the food makes me hungry!

Robb

Wait: you *shared* a muffin?? Either you are both exceptionally altruistic, or you weren't very hungry, or Canadian muffins are larger than their UK equivalent.
I like the quick sketches, especially the car park, and the Arvo Part poster is lovely.

Both these days - typical and untypical - were wonderful reads. This is what I look forward to in blogs - a glimpse of life in its tiny details.
I must do something similar one of these days.
