I looove this stuff! Did you ever try the sucre d'érable dur? It comes in the shape of a brick. When I was a kid, mom used to butter a piece of thick toast, scrape some maple sugar off the brick and then pour thick cream on top... Good thing we only ate that stuff once a year!
In the Iliad, she is described as the loveliest of the daughters of Priam (King of Troy), and gifted with prophecy. The god Apollo loved her, but she spurned him. As a punishment, he decreed that no one would ever believe her. So when she told her fellow Trojans that the Greeks were hiding inside the wooden horse...well, you know what happened.
Yeehah!

It's very very sweet with a concentrated maple flavor. You can put it on toast, but I usually just end up eating it with a spoon.

You don't strike me as the type to eat something like that with a spoon! I am surprised.

Really...why not? Do you think I'm completely disciplined? Not true! (But I wouldn't sit down and eat the whole tub of it...)
I've also been known to bite bits of butter right off the stick.
:-)
