Yum. How did the bundt cake turn out?

It's so satisfying, isn't it, to complete a sketchbook? Even though I don't draw much, I use a 11-by-14-inch art journal for my writing journal. (I like the space for clippings and for margins.) I go through one every year and a half, on average, and I want to develop some kind of religious ceremony -- nothing elaborate, necessarily -- for a volume's retirement.

Hi Peter, yes, it's so satisfying! Thanks for telling me about your journals, ad I agree, there should be some sort of ceremonial retirement fete when we make the switch to the new one. I just ordered two for next year (one hardbound and one spiral) and am wondering how to divide my time between them - it's going to feel sort of like two-timing, I think!

Who was Cassandra?

  • In the Iliad, she is described as the loveliest of the daughters of Priam (King of Troy), and gifted with prophecy. The god Apollo loved her, but she spurned him. As a punishment, he decreed that no one would ever believe her. So when she told her fellow Trojans that the Greeks were hiding inside the wooden horse...well, you know what happened.
