Very sorry you and Jonathan have been hit by Covid. I hope and trust it will quickly depart and leave no trace of itself behind. I wish you and Jon a healthy and peaceful autumn. It would be great to hear from you.

I've been lucky not to get caught by the Covid bug but maybe it's because my life is mostly that of a hermit!

I sympathise with you and all who worry about the ominous possibility of Trump returning to the White House and are totally baffled that this is even possible. Local and world-wide news are currently more disastrous than ever.

I agree. How will this time be seen? Hard to imagine when you are in the middle of it.
Hope you both feel better soon.
I will be reading Mann's book. Thank you for the interesting review.

Who was Cassandra?

  • In the Iliad, she is described as the loveliest of the daughters of Priam (King of Troy), and gifted with prophecy. The god Apollo loved her, but she spurned him. As a punishment, he decreed that no one would ever believe her. So when she told her fellow Trojans that the Greeks were hiding inside the wooden horse...well, you know what happened.
